Finding A Small Business Grant

The decision to start a business is a huge step. The process of finding the right funding can provide some obstacles along the way. In the past people thought, the only way to start a business was to have private funding. Today, private funding still provides the majority of the capital for small businesses but there are other options available. The government has setup programs to help individuals start their businesses. A person can receive the Small Business Grant Money if they qualify.

There are many questions about grant money for small business. The easiest way to make people understand is to tell them that Small Business Grant Money does not have to be repaid. This money is used to grow a business or help a business startup. People have long thought that a small business would need to contact the Small Business Administration (SBA) to get a grant. This is a misconception, the Small Business Administration does not offer grants to individuals. Instead, they offer loan guaranty programs. These loans would have to be paid back by the borrower.

Small Business Grant Money is available in some areas through the state government, local government and nonprofit organizations. A person could find out what grants are available in their area by visiting the state website and the local city government website. Finding the nonprofit agencies with grants available is harder but not impossible. Normally these agencies will be involved with the economic development of an area. An agency may have a few stipulations a business must agree to before receiving the grant. This stipulation could require that a business open a shop in an area that is being redeveloped.

The application process to apply for Small Business Grant Money can be very difficult to maneuver. The application process is very detailed. Also for each application, there is a written proposal that has to be submitted.  A small mistake can result in the complete rejection of the application. The guarantor may request additional information from the applicant. This information could consist of the business plan, tax returns, site information and other paper work. It is advised that copies be readily available to send off when requested.
